I always incubate my own eggs to check the cock is fertile before selling eggs. I am a member of The Leghorn Club, see website which is linked for a mine of information on this lively productive Mediterranean breed that may be had in so many different colours, and also registered with DEFRA. Colours can be mixed to make a dozen different colours.

I am now off and running with 85 chicks due to hatch 5th April. All cocks are fertile except araucana and UK Browns who are not yet penned up.

I am happy to report that most of my birds are well up to show standard and I do not use small eggs for hatching.

I crossed last year a brown with dark brown hens and produced some lovely dark brown pullets with lighter neck hackles who are already laying larger eggs than the parents and have proper leghorn comb. I have again crossed them with a Dark Brown cock and have 14 chicks from this mating. Eggs £2 each
